SY Marine was set up in 1997 with aim of expanding international shipping business and has developed marine consulting business comprising inspection, survey, damage control etc. for major Insurance Companies and Shipowners. In 2000, SY Marine acquired KR Engineering to launch into international engineering consulting business related with shipbuilding industry and has renamed it to SY TNC (technical consulting) in 2006 for CI integration.
SY Marine has developed Brazil market since 2004 by accepting business partner, Redito, of Brazil. With quick development of Brazil market, thanks to ambitious shipbuilding plan of Petrobras by local shipyards and investment for infrastructure of logistics, SY Marine and SY TNC have formed ‘consortium of manufacturers’ under name of ‘SY Consortium’ in 2006 to provide practical solutions to pending problems of shipyards, harbors, oil terminals etc. in Brazil. At present, SY Consortium has 4 major manufacturers of KR Engineering, Handong E&C, CEMS Co., Ltd and Dongwon Co., Ltd.
SY Marine do Brasil is to be set up as local incorporation in 2006 to accommodate expanding interests in Brazil and will consist of SY Marine, Redito, and local manufacturers in Brazil. It will serve as local office for technical assistance, A/S, engineering consulting etc.

World shipbuilding market has been led by shipyards of 3 countries - Korea, China and Japan with market share of over 90%. Korean shipyards have recently consolidated its position by listing 7 shipyards from rank first to rank 7th in world top 10 shipyards.
Flourishing shipbuilding industry in Korea has ironically deprived Korean small shipowners of newbuilding opportunities at Korean shipyards. SY Marine has noted such niche market and has started to provide technical consulting service since 2002 – choosing suitable shipyards in China and Vietnam, turnkey base contract with Korean shipowners, technical supervision of newbuilding, supply of all equipments and materials for newbuilding ships, supply of panel line and crane to relevant shipyards as a part of modernization and expansion program.

Brazilian shipbuilding industry has taken ambitious step to reactivate its dormant shipyards and to regain past glory. Several consortiums among many have been chosen for newbuilding projects of Petrobras and Transpetro and all of them have technical consulting contract with foreign shipyards like Samsung, Hyundai of Korea and CSSC of China. But it is cool judgment that foreign shipyards never help future competitors from hearts. Many Asian and East European countries have tried to invite Far East shipyards but only a few of them have achieved small success by inviting repair shipyards and subsidiary shipyards. Technology transfer and consulting in true sense by Far East shipyards is totally nonsense.

SY Marine has survived in niche market under strong influence and interference of major shipyards. Korean shipyards are supported by strong infrastructure consisting of over 1000 manufacturers, which is real strength of Korean shipbuilding industry. These manufacturers are makers of ship and shipyard equipments, ship blocks etc. and scattered around in south-east region of Korea, where most Korean shipyards are located. SY Marine is ready to open the direct door to this intricate infrastructure, instead of indirect door through Korean shipyards.
